Campus heroes win guitars

The Guitar Hero Music Mashup, run across three campuses by young promotions company Visual Affair, seems to have struck a chord with students. “The events were a success on all campuses – UJ, Wits and Tuks – and we had fun. And we managed to give away three guitars and other cool prizes,” says Visual Affair’s Clayton Mott.

The last event took place yesterday at the University of Pretoria.

FMCampus attended UJ’s Bunting Road campus event on July 16, an icy Jo’burg afternoon. The rock band Allegra (pictured) performed at the student centre to a small crowd of students.  The students were also entertained by clothing brand Fubu, who had some dancers on the stage after the band performed. The Fubu girls also Mceed the show.

During the event students competed against each other in DJ Hero, Guitar Hero and Band Hero games on Xbox 360 for a Stagg guitar worth over R3 000, Gemini headphones, copies of Xbox games and more.

One UJ student who was playing Guitar Hero on Xbox said he wished they had events like this every week on campus.

Allegra’s leader  Nick Jordaan said the band had done a number of gigs on campuses as part of their contract with Guitar Hero and love the exposure they get through it. They shook off the cold weather to deliver an electric performance at UJ.
